Meet Me this Saturday in Virginia!

This Saturday I will be making a very special appearance at Felix & Oscar--an organic pet-food store in Springfield, VA--to speak at a campaign fundraiser on behalf of Hank, the cat who's running for Virginia's open Senate seat. Hank has Homer's and my unqualified support, and I actually really do encourage those of you who aren't already familiar with Hank to follow the link above and familiarize yourself with all the amazing work he and his humans are doing to improve the lives of shelter animals--as well as the political process. ;-)
I will be speaking a bit, reading a section from my upcoming novel LOVE SAVES THE DAY, answering questions, and autographing books. If you're in the area and would like to check it out, here's the info:
Where: Felix & Oscar, 6671-A Backlick Road, Springfield, VA (next to Outback and the Vet Referral Center in the Backlick Shopping Center) 703-866-0222
When: Saturday, September 22, 2012. Reading and Q&A at 11:30am, book-signing to follow.
Why: Because we love you! (No, but--seriously. It's been a while since I've done a reading, and I miss meeting you guys!)
Hope to see you there!!!

At least I bought the book there...
Dear Gwen, I bought an autographed copy of "Homer's Odyssey" and didn't remember where I got it and didn't start reading it until Friday. I must have bought it at "Felix and Oscar" because that's the only place I'll buy my kitties, Isaac and Olive Oyl, their food. I finished it early this morning marvelling at your ability to make me laugh, hold my breath, and bawl my eyes out.
I just spent 45 minutes on this blog trying to get and update, and have to say how sorry I am about Vashti and Scarlett. I, too, had to say goodbye to a stray 15 months ago. I had Punkin (aka Punk-man) for 17 years and we figured him to be 2 years old when I got him. After seeing his chest x-ray and all of the tumors, I asked the vet (he was new to me) if he's ever treated a cat older than 19, and he said, "just one". I said that that must make Punkin a rockstar. The doc agreed. He was the BEST cat.
Of course, Isaac "the Ridiculous" wasn't doing well on his own so I got a year-old darling rescued tuxedo girl (fairly fresh from a partial mastectomy and her little kitty hysterectomy) named Olive Oyl who systematically claimed bits of my bedroom (gained only after one week each of getting screamed at and chased under the bed by Isaac). So after one month, she progressively "owned" one nightstand, then the next nightstand, then the area behind my head (transitting between the nightstands), and then finally the bed! Very clever, sweet, self-possessed little girl.
Gwen, see what you brought out in me? How lucky we are to have these dear spirits with us. Homer is simply amazing. And as well as you painted the picture of his activities, I'd still love to see videos of all of it when it was going on--how ridiculous is that?
Bless you for the attention you have brought to the plight of "special needs" kitties. All the best to you family of five! (And congrats on your efforts to improve your own health--I'm so glad it didn't result in re-homing).

Oh man!!! I wish I knew sooner! I live right in Alexandria about 10 minutes away, but will be out of town this weekend. :-( Luckily, I met your meowmy at the big reading down at BCR several years ago. Please just let her know she has to come back when her new book comes out! :-)
